Buyer's Premium:

An Indian Koftgari Tulwar Hilt, dating to the 19th or 20th Century. This ornate, basket-hilted sword handle (hilt and guard) is constructed from iron with extensive silver inlay (Koftgari). It is decorated with fine floral and foliate motifs against a dark, likely niello or enamel-infilled, background. The intricate designs cover the bulbous grip, pointed pommel, and the disc-shaped guard, with a curved knuckle bow connecting the guard to the pommel, terminating in a small finial.

L: Approximately 20cm

Condition report:

Good overall condition, consistent with age and use. Visible tarnishing to the silver-toned metal. Minor surface wear and subtle loss of patination are present in areas, particularly to the dark background infill.
