Lot 242: A Pair of Indian School Preliminary Sketches, 18th/19th Century
A Pair of Indian School, 18th/19th Century preliminary sketches, executed on aged, fibrous handmade paper, consistent with the style of Indian miniature painting. The first, a horizontal piece, depicts two male figures in profile, adorned with turbans, mustaches, and jewelry, rendered in fine dark ink or pencil with subtle yellow and green pigment accents. A faint Devanagari character resembling ‘श’ (sha) is visible in the upper right corner. The second, a vertical sketch, portrays a single male figure in profile with an elaborate coiffure, jeweled ear ornament, and delicate facial features, executed in similar dark ink or pencil with minimal red detailing. A faint numeral ‘2’ is present in its upper right.

Condition report:
Both pieces exhibit significant age-related toning, rough and torn edges, and some minor creasing. The intricate line work remains well-preserved. No evidence of major repairs or restoration.
