An Indo-Persian cut-steel processional standard (‘alam). This silver-toned metal standard finial or banner top is crafted in a distinctive Islamic style. Its central, shield-shaped body features intricate openwork Arabic calligraphy, which includes the word ‘Allah’ and the phrase ‘Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh’ (There is no might nor any power except with Allah), set within a perforated foliate border. Two outward-curving arms terminate in stylized zoomorphic heads, resembling dragons or serpents, flanking the central element. The object is completed by a bulbous finial transitioning into a cylindrical shaft at its base.
