A Qajar Gilt Brass Coco-de-Mer Beggar’s Bowl (Kashkul), Persia, 19th Century. This large, oval-shaped metal vessel features a heavily decorated exterior. Its surface is intricately adorned with a combination of bold Arabic calligraphy in multiple bands, extensive interlacing geometric patterns, and fine arabesque foliate motifs, all highlighted in a contrasting golden tone against a darker, patinated background. A prominent, eight-lobed opening is present on one side, revealing the interior. Two ornate, animal-headed handles or suspension loops, each embellished with small turquoise-colored inlays and ending in an S-shaped hook, are attached to the sides. The visible script is Arabic calligraphy, often comprising religious invocations or poetic verses in such artifacts.
