A Chinese porcelain stem bowl (dou) featuring elaborate polychrome enamel and underglaze blue decoration on a white ground. The exterior body displays two five-clawed dragons, one predominantly iron-red and the other green, both depicted amidst scrolling floral tendrils and stylized clouds. The flared stem is decorated with underglaze blue and green enameled waves. The interior features a central medallion with colorful birds among flowering plants, encircled by a band of underglaze blue calligraphic script. The base of the stem bears an underglaze blue six-character reign mark, which translates to ‘Made in the Xuande reign of the Great Ming dynasty’ (大明宣德年製).
