Lot 36: A Chinese Longquan Kinuta Celadon 'Double Ear' Mallet Vase, Possibly Song Dynasty
It features a compressed ovoid body, a tall cylindrical neck, and a widely flared, dish-shaped mouth. Two strap handles, adorned with stylized foliate or animal mask relief decorations at their terminals, are applied to the shoulders, contributing to its ‘double ear’ designation. The vase is covered in a pale sage green celadon glaze, characterized by a dense, fine network of crackle throughout. The neatly cut footring base reveals a brownish-grey biscuit in the unglazed areas, displaying five distinct spur marks within the glazed recess.
H: Approximately 18cm
Condition report:
Good overall condition. No evident chips, breaks, or repairs. The glaze displays inherent crazing consistent with age. Minor discoloration is present on the unglazed base.
