An illuminated Islamic genealogical scroll, likely Ottoman or Persian, dating to the 19th Century. Executed on aged paper, it features extensive Islamic calligraphy in black ink, vibrant green, blue, and pink pigments, and prominent gold embellishments. Its layout includes a large Ottoman Tughra, decorative floral and foliate borders, and multiple panels of Arabic text. A significant portion details an interconnected genealogical or spiritual lineage (silsila) through gold-outlined circles containing Arabic names, identified as prophets or revered figures, such as ‘أبو البشر محمد’ (Abu al-Bashar Muhammad, ‘Father of Humanity, Muhammad’).


Condition report:

Significant age-related wear, including extensive discoloration, creasing, and notable tears and losses to the paper, particularly in the central areas of the scroll. Pigment and gold losses are also present.
