Lot 218: A Jain Purushagar Yantra (Cosmic Man) Textile Scroll, Rajasthan, 19th Century
A Jain Purushagar Yantra (Cosmic Man) from Rajasthan, 19th Century. This painted textile scroll or banner depicts a stylized anthropomorphic figure formed by a grid of checkered and solid brown panels. Rendered in a schematic folk art style, the central figure features brown skin tones, yellow stylized headgear, and red dotted elements. Its segmented torso and limbs contain numerous smaller seated figures, symbolic motifs such as pots and birds, and further inscriptions. Extensive inscriptions in Devanagari script, accompanied by numerous numerical notations, are present both surrounding the figure and within its internal compartments, with a prominent header reading "॥पुरुषागार यन्त्रम्॥". Executed on a light brown woven textile with opaque pigments.

Condition report:
Overall discoloration, fabric wear, and minor pigment loss are present. Stains and surface rubbing are visible. The edges are folded and stitched, and small holes at the top suggest it was previously hung.
