An Ottoman Hajj Pilgrimage Map of Mecca and Medina, Late 19th/Early 20th Century. This hand-colored drawing depicts a complex schematic pilgrimage map, horizontally oriented and divided into multiple panels and decorative borders. It features architectural representations of mosques, minarets, and domes, calligraphic Arabic text, and stylized figures, rendered in red, green, yellow, brown, and light blue pigments. The central right panel prominently features the Kaaba within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, while the central left panel shows a large green-domed mosque, indicative of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. Various other holy sites and geographical markers are depicted. Extensive Arabic script serves as labels and descriptive text throughout, with visible translations including "Masjid al-Haram" (Sacred Mosque) and "Masjid al-Nabawi" (Prophet’s Mosque).
