Lot 203: A Persian Anatomical Illustration, After Mansur ibn Ilyas, 19th Century
A framed, hand-drawn anatomical illustration, likely originating from an Islamic medical manuscript. The artwork depicts a stylized human figure in a squatting or seated posture, with its internal vascular or nervous system clearly delineated in red, blue, and yellow lines against a predominantly yellow body. The illustration is rendered on aged, light brown paper or parchment. Three blocks of handwritten Arabic or Perso-Arabic calligraphy are visible: one at the top right reads "عن طيشو عام" (An tayashu ‘ām), translating to "from general carelessness" or "regarding a general error"; another at the top left reads "يستشرو" (Yastashirū), meaning "they consult"; and a third positioned below the figure reads "عاش مشدّوم" (ʿĀsh mashdūm), translating as "he lived strongly/firmly."
With frame: Approximately 43 x 32.8cm
Condition report:
Good condition. The paper shows expected signs of age-related discoloration. Pigments remain vibrant. No apparent major tears or damage observed.
