Lot 199: A Rajasthani Miniature Painting of Multi-Headed Hanuman, 19th Century
An Indian miniature painting depicting Hanuman in his multi-headed (Panchamukha or Ashtamukhi) form, originating from Rajasthan, 19th Century. Executed in opaque watercolors or gouache on aged paper, the central figure features a red-faced, crowned anthropomorphic head with a prominent mustache. This is flanked by multiple heads, including those of a boar, tiger, bird (possibly eagle), horse, and cow, all adorned with yellow crowns. The deity is depicted with numerous arms, holding various attributes, and a visible tail. The figure is elaborately decorated with necklaces, armbands, and drapery in red, yellow, green, and white, set against a plain, light brown background. Faint, illegible script or markings in an Indian language are visible in the lower left quadrant of the painting.

The paper shows overall toning and minor scattered discoloration consistent with age. The colors appear generally well-preserved and vibrant. No significant losses or repairs are immediately apparent. The frame shows minor wear commensurate with age.
