Lot 177: A Gilt Bronze Head of Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara) Bodhisattva, 19th Century
A sculptural head depicting a Buddhist deity, identified as Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara) Bodhisattva, crafted from gilded bronze. The face and neck area retain a golden luster, characterized by a serene facial expression, an urna, and elongated earlobes. An elaborate headdress features a smaller seated Buddha figure. The headdress and reverse portions exhibit heavy patination with mottled green verdigris and reddish-brown corrosion, indicative of considerable age. The sculpture is mounted on a contemporary, unadorned black square plinth.
