Buyer's Premium:

This spherical, hinged container, functioning as an incense burner or censer, is crafted from a copper alloy and features extensive inlay. The item is executed in the Mamluk style, consistent with examples from Syria, including Damascus. The surface is elaborately decorated with intricate geometric patterns, repeating stellate motifs, and bands of deeply engraved Arabic calligraphy, which appear to be decorative blessings or dedications. Within circular medallions, perforated openwork designs depict zoomorphic figures, such as horses or donkeys, and figural scenes. The construction comprises two hemispherical halves.

D: Approximately 12.7cm

Condition report:

The item exhibits significant age, characterized by a heavy, uneven dark patina and areas of greenish-blue verdigris. There is wear and some loss to the inlaid metals, consistent with age and use. The overall structural integrity, including the hinge mechanism, appears intact.
