A Mughal or Deccani bone horse-head hilt, 17th/18th Century. This finely carved handle or hilt, likely for a kris dagger or similar implement, depicts a stylized horse’s head and neck. Crafted from bone, it displays a rich, aged yellowish-brown patina with visible natural growth lines and some fine fissures consistent with its material and age. The horse’s head is adorned with an intricately carved bridle featuring geometric patterns, while the neck shows deeply incised lines suggesting a stylized mane. The flared base is decorated with elaborate foliate scrollwork and a central star-like floral motif. The underside reveals a deep recess and a central bore hole, indicating its function for attachment.
